Calendar of Belonging

"I had the privilege of attending a workshop discussing inclusivity in the workplace. Your foundation and message is so inspiring and the workshop about key dates in my culture made me feel seen in a way I hadn't experienced before." - Participant in a Calendar of Belonging tool pilot.

InCommon is developing a fun interactive activity - the Calendar of Belonging - to help workplaces be more inclusive. The Calendar of Belonging is designed to help workplaces acknowledge and celebrate the dates that are significant to their team members.

Celebrations and commemorations are a great way to learn about each other and build our cultural knowledge. The Calendar also helps create a culture of inclusion by building awareness and highlighting times of the year when team members might be unavailable for hui or meetings due to whānau/family or community commitments - we wouldn't call an important meeting on Christmas day and the same consideration can be applied to other important dates in our team members' calendars such as Eid or Lunar New Year. Small things can have big impacts on our feelings of belonging.

We're piloting the Calendar with various workplaces - get in touch if your team might be interested! Sessions take about an hour, we'd love to visit for a kōrero. We're aiming to have the Calendar available to download for free towards the end of the year.
